Candidates preparing for the UPSC IFS Exam 2023 will have to go through three rounds, as mentioned below:

UPSC IFS Exam Pattern 2023

The candidates must clear all three stages of the UPSC IFS selection process to be eligible for the post. The selection process also involves interviews in the final round. The UPSC 2023 exam pattern for all the rounds is given in the table below.

Prelims Exam Pattern

The UPSC IFS prelims exam pattern 2023 is as follows. The basic details of the prelims paper are listed below.

  • The exam is in offline mode and the medium of the exam is English and Hindi.
  • There are 2 papers in the preliminary exam.
  • The duration of the exam is 2 hours each per paper.
  • The questions are of an objective type.
  • The marks allotted are 200 each per paper.
  • For any incorrect response, there is a negative marking of 1/3.

Mains Exam Pattern

The UPSC IFS mains exam pattern 2023 is as follows. The basic details of the mains paper are listed below.

  • The exam is in offline mode and the medium of the exam is English. 
  • There are 6 papers in the mains exam
  • The duration of the exam is 3 hours per paper.
  • The questions are of a descriptive type
  • The marks allotted are 300 each per papers 1 & 2, and the optional papers are for 200 marks each.
