Preliminary Examination: This is the prelims of the UPSC Examination. It consists of two objective-type papers: CSAT which stands for Civil Services Aptitude Test and General Studies Paper I and General Services Paper II (G.S Paper I and G.S Paper II). The Preliminary Exam is basically a screening test; candidates who qualify go through the Mains Exam.
Main Examination: Shortlisted candidates advance to the Main Examination after passing the Civil Services Preliminary Test. Its structure is made up of nine papers, such as Essay, General Studies, and Optional Subject Papers.
