Republic Day is a day to remember when the constitution of India came into effect on January 26,1950.India became independent on August 14,1947 but freedom did not come along with democracy and right to choose your own government.It still did not have a permanent constitution and Indian laws were based on the British established,Government of India Act 1935.
It was finally after 2 years,11 months and 18 days on January 26,1950,when the Indian constitution came into effect.It was the day when India was declared as a democratic republic.
This year will mark the 72th Republic Day of India.

1) India celebrated its first Republic Day on January 26,1950 which was almost 3 years after we got independence.
2) Rebublic Day ends on January 29 with the Beating Retreat Ceremony.
3) Indian constitution came into play on January 26 which took almost 2 years ,11 months and 18 days for Dr. B.R.Ambedkar and his team to create.
4) Indian constitution was written in both language English and Hindi and both were handwritten.
5) India’s constitution is the longest constitution in the world which has total 448 articles.
6) The first Republic Day at Rajpath was perfomed in 1955.
7) The Republic Day parade starts from Rajpath and ends at Red fort in Delhi.
8) ‘Abide with Me’ is a christian song which is played at the Republic Day parade only because It was one of favourite song of Mahatma Gandhi.
9) President Sukarno(First Head of State of Indonesia) was the Chief Guest of India’s first Republic Day.
10) 21-gun salute is given to the National Flag and the President of India on Republic Day.
